Erectile Dysfunction Sign Of Early Death?

New research, published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine (published by the International Society for Sexual Medicine), indicates that men who suffer from erectile dysfunction may be 70% more likely to die prematurely.

The recent University of Mississippi study showed that ED increased the risk of premature death, if left untreated.

Therefore it is important for men with erectile dysfunction to be screened and potentially treated for complications that may enhance the possibility of premature death.

Shocking Alternative to Viagra

During a recent meeting of the European Society for Sexual Medicine in Madrid, Spain, it was proposed that, according to recent studies, extra-corporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) could provide a long-term treatment for erectile dysfunction.

In a Scandinavian study of the potential effectiveness of ESWT, 112 men with erectile dysfunction took part. Half of the men received five weekly doses of low-intensity sound waves to six parts of their penis. The other 56 men were given a placebo (a treatment, such as a tablet, that does not contain an active ingredient/component).

At the start of the study none of the men were able to have penetrative sex without medication. However, by the end of the study 57% of the men who received the low-intensity sound waves (via ESWT) said they could have sex without medication, in contrast to the 9% who were given a placebo.

Using Dynamite to Treat Erectile Dysfunction?!

Scientists have created a rub-on gel to treat erectile dysfunction, which contains tiny doses of the high explosive nitroglycerine which is used to make dynamite.dynamite to treat erectile dysfunction

The gel, which is currently undergoing clinical trials in the UK, is applied to a man’s genitals shortly before sexual activity.

Erectile Dysfunction (ED), also known as male impotence, is a condition where the penis does not harden and expand enough for actual sexual penetration, or when an erection cannot be kept long enough to engage in sexual activity, despite sexual stimulation.

NEW WARNING: “Herbal Viagra” can be deadly

Herbal_Viagra_Roadside3U.S health authorities have warned consumers about the risks of “herbal” non-prescription products that are being sold to enhance  sexual performance.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have discovered that some supplements sold as “herbal alternatives” to prescription-only medications (POMs) to treat erectile dysfunction (such as Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra) actually contain the active ingredients of those drugs.

Sildenafil, the active ingredient to Viagra, can be dangerous for someone with an undiagnosed cardiac condition.

Could Erectile Dysfunction be an early indicator of Heart Disease?

A recent study by Lund University in Sweden has found that the most common cause (in 4 out of every 5 cases), is a poor lack of circulation in the penis resulting in an impaired erection, and in some cases no erection at all!

What causes the poor circulation?

Rasmus Borgquist (the physician that led the studies) has discovered that if these vessels have been affected by atherosclerosis (clogged arteries) then it is likely that the same process could be underway in the coronary artery in the heart.

Is it a reason to worry?

Honestly? Maybe – The study also found that men suffering from ED also had increased instances of high blood pressure, high blood fat and several other risk factors for heart disease.

The main point from this study has shown that seeking
medical advice as soon as you notice a problem, can ultimately save you from further health complications and may well save your life!

Lifestyle Choices

It has been noticed since the early 1980’s that there could be a connection between heart disease and impotence/ED, but this link has only recently started to be investigated and studied in more depth.

Several changes can be made straight away to help your ED and in turn reduce the risk of heart disease.

These are the usual changes in your lifestyle (i.e. quit smoking, more exercise, diet change) and if these things do not help, then there are several different medications you can take which can help with any contributing factors you may have such as to lower your blood
pressure.

Stop Smoking and Lose Weight – It Helps!

The results of the study also showed that by stopping smoking and losing weight 3 out of every 5 had increased potency and significantly reduced chances of contracting heart disease.

What will make YOU change?

It has been proven that it is often easier for those suffering from ED to accept that they need to make a change if they know it will increase their potency, rather than talk about the risk of having a heart attack later in life.

There is help available

Companies are now bringing many new drugs to market to combat ED, that also help to combat other issues like heart disease. There is lots of help available any time.

A problem shared

Naturally, people feel that it is an awkward subject to talk about with their partner or GP, but often, once this subject has been discussed it becomes a much easier subject to tackle.

If you or anyone you know struggles with ED and/or heart disease, then don’t suffer in silence. Leave a reply to this post, or visit our facebook page/Twitter and our community will be happy to lend an ear and provide friendly advice.
