Could Viagra Be A Cure For Blindness?

It has been suggested that Viagra could prevent further loss of vision for patients with poor eyesight and even repair eye damage.

Scientists at Columbia University in New York have been conducting a two year trail. They suggest that Viagra could stop age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

AMD is the UK’s leading cause of blindness.viagra

Recent research have found that AMD is partly caused by reduced blood flow to the choroid (a vital layer of tissue that sits in front of the retina), and it has been found that Viagra can improve blood flow to this tissue.

Viagra is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension.

New Viagra Skin Patch

In 1998, Viagra was the first and only oral pill to be approved by the FDA to treat impotence, also known as erectile dysfunction.

Scientists have been trying for many years to develop new ways to get a drug like Viagra into the blood stream without going via the stomach to reduce the risk of side effects.

But a team at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, along with scientists at Cairo University have made a breakthrough  and developed the first stick on patch to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), containing the same active ingredient in Viagra – Sildenafil Citrate.

The patch can take effect within minutes and still be effective beyond 10 hours, compared to Viagra which takes 30-60 minutes to take effect and is only effective for up to 4 hours.

Men will no longer suffer from the side effects which are caused by ingesting the little blue pill such as indigestion, migraines and headaches.

The new skin plaster, which can be worn on the upper arm or abdomen, has been tested on rats and the results were promising.

There are currently no indications as to when (or if) it will be approved for use in the UK.

If it does get approved, it will only be available as a Prescription Only Medication (POM) like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra.

So, until the patch actually becomes available, if you, or someone you love, have been diagnosed with ED, then perhaps prescription medication (such as Cialis, Levitra, or Viagra) would be an appropriate treatment.

Man Fractures His Penis During Sex

A 32 year old man was rushed to hospital after his penis turned black and swollen after engaging in ‘vigorous’ sexual intercourse.

The man from New Delhi heard a ‘snapping’  sound during sexual intercourse which then resulted in him suffering from severe pain and caused his penis to bend.

After an examination he was diagnosed with penile fracture.

Doctors carried out ultrasounds which revealed that he had torn the wall of the right corpora cavernosa.

Corpora cavernosa are two chambers which run the length of the penis and are filled with erectile tissue.

Blood flows into the tissue which causes the penis to harden.

Penile fracture occurs when an erect penis undergoes blunt trauma during sexual intercourse or masturbation.

Penile fracture can cause other problems in the future including erectile dysfunction.

This is because scar tissue will form as the penis heals which will prevent blood flow to the tissue.

Erectile dysfunction is a condition where the penis does not harden and expand when a man is sexually excited.

Would You Tell Your Friends Your Sex Secrets Or Intimate Health Issues?

It has been confirmed that women are more likely to talk about sex with their friends than their partners.

sex secrets

Women’s intimate health brand Balance Activ as part of BV Awareness Month have revealed that women won’t share sex secrets with their partners but will happily discuss with friends.

According to a study, 38% will reveal how often they have sex and 3 in 10 will give details such as where they have done the deed.

However, women are not as open to share details about intimate health matters.

Less than 1 in 5 women will discuss this with their friends as they fear they will be rejected or feel embarassed.

In a bid to encourage more women to talk about intimate health issues, Balance Activ and Dr Dawn Harper have organised its ‘Time to Talk’ campaign, in conjunction with BV (Bacterial Vaginosis) Awareness Month.

It isn’t just women who shy away from talking about sexual health matters – only 6% of men talk about these issues.

Some men feel embarassed to speak to their partners or GP about sexual health problems such as erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation.

Psoriasis Could Increase The Risk Of Erectile Dysfunction

According to NHS Choices, psoriasis is a skin condition that affects around 2% of people in the UK.psoriasis

Psoriasis causes raised, flaky, red patches on the skin.

The patches can appear anywhere on your body, but are typically on the elbow, scalp, knees and lower back.

Scientist have now revealed that men with psoriasis have a higher chance of suffering from erectile dysfunction.

Erectile dysfunction is a condition where the penis does not harden and expand when a man is sexually excited.

Experts studied the sexual function in 191 men with psoriasis and 191 men who do not have the skin condition.

The results showed that 53% of men with psoriasis suffered from erectile dysfunction, compared to only 40% of those without psoriasis.

It is known that men with psoriasis are often obese or have other cardiovascular risk factors that may restrict blood flow in the body including the penis – which causes erectile dysfunction.

Is Erectile Dysfunction Caused By A Man’s Relationship With His Mother?

Research has suggested that erectile dysfunction could be caused by the relationship a man has with his mother. erectile dysfunction

The study, which was published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, showed that a strained relationship with your mother as a child can cause sexual problems as an adult.

Charles University in Prague conducted a survery which found that men who didnt say ‘L’ word (love) until later in life had issues in the bedroom.

960 men, aged between 15 and 88, participated in the study and were asked about their sexual habits, their relationship with their mother and the age they fell in love.

The study concluded that: ‘The association of poorer current sexual function with (historical) older age at first being in love might suggest some enduring conflict regarding sexuality and/or intimacy.’

Which means that men who have more difficulties with sexual functions later in life had also tended to fall in love later on.

Regarding the relationship between men and their mothers, the study found: ‘One explanation for this finding is that psychogenic factors (when a physical illness stems from an emotional stress) may play a more important role.’

This means that if a man has emotional issues as a young man they may stem into physical issues in his later life.

Pearling Can Cause Erectile Dysfunction

In recent years there has been a rise in men turning to ‘pearling’ to enhance sexual pleasure for their partner during intercourse. pearling cause erectile dysfunction

Pearling entails the men to insert plastic beads or pearls under the skin of his penis by either a piercing professional or by the man himself. This is meant to boost physical stimulation by applying extra friction to a womans clitoris.

Dr Tobias Kohler, men’s sexual health expert, has warn that pearling can be dangerous as it can damage the urethra (a tube that carries urine from the bladder) and cause chronic pain, and even cause erectile dysfunction and scar tissue formation.

It has been reported that a 19 year old  man from Flordia tried inserting a pearl into his penis, but seven hours after making the incision he was rushed to hospital with swelling and worsening pain to his penis and blood in his urine.
Doctors had to remove a hematoma (a deep swelling of clotted blood) and cauterized the wounds to stop the bleeding.

Could Cialis Be Effective In Treating Cancerous Tumours?

cialis 20mgA clinical trial is underway which will hopefully show that Cialis weakens the ability of a tumour to fight the human immune system.

The trial is specifically focusing on those people suffering from tumours in the head and neck.

Professor Joseph Califano from the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital explained that a suppressed immune system could be the reason why these tumours respond so aggressively. He added that Cialis could prevent the immune system from producing nitric oxide which was being used by the tumours to create a shield to protect them.

It is hoped that Cialis will help the body to fight tumours on its own and cause them to shrink and possibly disappear.

Other research has already been done using Viagra for cancer treatment by Professor Ivan Borrello , a colleague of Dr. Califano. They have been working together on other studies using mice but reportedly prefer using Cialis because it works for longer period before wearing off.

One of the great advantages of using Cialis to treat head and neck tumours is that the drug is safe and its side effects are minimal.  In fact it was even noted that when compared to radiotherapy or chemotherapy the side effects of Cialis were significantly more pleasant!

Obviously the Cialis will not cure cancer alone but it could be used as a complementary treatment alongside standard cancer therapies.

Both men and women are being enrolled into the clinical trial which has been funded by the National Cancer Institute in America. It is hoped that the daily doses of Cialis over the two week trial period will boost the immune systems of the participants.

Dr. Califano mentioned that the male participants were very happy about the idea of being given Cialis as part of their treatment for cancer.

Over-The-Counter Supplements May Be Unsafe

Around 40-70% of men will experience sexual dysfunction at some point in life. herbal viagra

To avoid the embarrassment of speaking to their doctor or paying for a prescription, many buy over-the-counter (OTC) products.

However some over-the-counter drugs which are sold as alternatives to prescription only medication (POM) actually contain the active ingredients of the prescription only drugs.

It has been found that an OTC product was advertised as “natural” but contained Sildenafil, the same ingredient found in the prescription only medicine Viagra which is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED).

Sildenafil belongs to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase-5-inhibitors (PDE5Is).

PDE5is cannot be legally sold over-the-counter as taking them without doctors supervision can be dangerous for someone with an undiagnosed cardiac condition, and other conditions such as high or low blood pressure.
